2011 World Youth Latin

Back At CEZ Arena 02/10/2011

Speed Test Just checked the DSL line that we have at CEZ Arena again. Not a blistering speed we're getting today, but it should be good enough for a reasonable quality live stream to come out of the Arena from 13:15, the exact time we will switch to live mode again for the competion through the semi-final of the Grand Slam Latin.

If you are living in the Czech Republic or in a  neighbouring country, you should watch the competition on public Czech TV, on their sports channel 4, from 13:30 to 14:45 and from 16:30 to 17:45. Guaranteed that their output will be superior to ours. Multi-camera, cranes, travelling, the works! If they would provide us with their signal here (simple BNC cable will do), we could show it to the world. I guess this is something WDSF will need to address for the future. If there is a national broadcast of an important WDSF event, provide a signal to WDSF ... The world governing body and rights holder will gladly give it global exposure and the broadcaster all the credit. Food for thought!

2011 Grand Slam Standard St Petersburg, RUS Here are the first impressions of the 2011 WDSF Grand Slam Standard that is in progress right now in St Petersburg, RUS. WDSF Communications team member Helmut Roland recorded them yesterday of Rounds 1 and 2 ... as well as of a competition featuring the future stars of the Grand Slam. Helmut will provide us with photos, videos and - most importantly - results throughout today. We will pass everything on to you right here.

Uploading In Progress 02/10/2011

As promised, the WDSF Communications team is back online and continues uploading the individual dance clips of yesterday's World Youth Latin in Ostrava.

The preliminary rounds of the Grand Slam Latin is being danced at the CEZ Arena. A record number of entries had the organisers call the first round earlier than what was initially planned. The couples - and the adjudicators - had to rise and shine after only a short night's rest. Doors at the Arena opened at 07:45. Our reporting on the Grand Slam will start with the live transmission at 13:15.

Prof Roland, our St Petersburg correspondent, has already sent us some videos on the Grand Slam Standard there. All edited and ready to go up.

Today Is Tomorrow! 02/10/2011

We came back to the hotel at around 23:00. Dinner was obviously no longer served at the restaurant - and the sandwich (the third for the day) was eaten in no time at all at the bar. Lots of people there watching the recording of the live streams on their laptops.

The cap the night, we decided to check turnaround times for getting uploads ready, then we tested the bandwidth of the hotel's wireless (12 € a day), and it turned out to be good enough to quickly upload five clips.

Here are Boie Bogdan - Ksenia Rbyna, ROU, dancing Round 1 of the 2011 WDSF World DanceSport Championship Youth Latin in Ostrava, CZE. The others are on DanceSport Total!

The Plan For Tomorrow 01/10/2011

WDSF Grand Slam Latin Ostrava We will start uploading individual clips of the World Youth Latin in full HD quality starting tmorrow morning from about 10 :00 CEST. We will post them here after they're on DanceSport Total, the WDSF YouTube channel through 13:00 and the switch blogs. The 2011 WDSF Grand Slam Latin Ostrava will be the focus of our attention from 13:15, with a first live stream of the semi-final here scheduled at 13:15.

The final of the Grand Slam Latin will be live from 16:25 to 17:50. The adjudicating will be done with the new WDSF Judging System: all dances as solo, scored for the five Programme Components. Well worth watching!

We should also get results and videos in from the Grand Slam Standard in St Petersburg.

Things can only get better tomorrow, and specifically the quality of the live streams should improve even further as bandwith and other problems are now sorted out. In any case, we have an unprecedented wealth of footage on the spectacular World Youth Latin of today. It may take us some time, but we will upload nearly all of it over the coming days.

Live from Ostrava!!!

Good night from Ostrava!

Wondering What Happened In St Petersburg? 01/10/2011

2011 Grand Slam Standard St Petersburg, RUS We can now tell you who made Round 3 in the Grand Slam Standard that takes place today and tomorrow in St Petersburg, RUS. Our colleague Helmut Roland has certainly done his part and forwarded us results and photographs, we failed to post them until now. The live transmission of the World Youth Latin kept us on our toes to the point of nearly overstretching ...

Rounds one and two were completed a while ago in St Petersburg. Top 48 and later will be danced tomorrow, Sunday.

The Final Standings 01/10/2011

Evgeniy Kuzin - Elina Popova RUS The final of the World Youth Latin was certainly the highlight of the day, but it also set the stage for a live television programme that will commence here at the CEZ Arena in about ten minutes. The six finalists were rushed off right after Evgeniy and Elina had performed their dance of honour and they are now rehearsing their part in the "Galashow s Latin" ... BTW: We are trying to get some footage of that to you as well. But in the first place, we would like to provide you with the final standings.

First Through Sixth

1. 42 Evgeniy Kuzin - Elina Popova RUS

2. 66 George Sutu / Ludivine Brangbour FRA

3. 14 Marco De Angelis / Alice Fabrizi ITA
