The Day Before ...

Pull Up A Chair

Chairmen Congress Even the day prior to the start of the GOC can be a busy one ... at least for some. The Chairmen Congress was scheduled for 13 August. 8 new applicants did their exams in the morning. In the afternoon a group of 45 chairmen gathered to discuss and to exchange their experiences. WDSF Sports Director Marco Sietas presented the new version of the WDSF Competition Rules which were accepted at the this year's AGM in Berlin.

The experience proved that although there are many regulations, the chairmen have to deal sometimes with unforseen situations such as

  • How many couples have to be in the final?
  • What to do if there are eg 5 couples qualified, couples from 6 to 9 have a tie in their marks?
  • Is there an extra round or 5 couples in the Final?
  • A couples is injured in the Solo Dance and recovers until the group dance starts. Is it allowed to continue?

And many other interesting situations were brought up. The discussions, which were held in a very positive atmosphere, ended with the conclusion that there should be a handbook for chairmen that lists and explains all these questions. It should be a "living" document, continuously updated.
