Impressions of the opening ceremony of the 2012 WDSF GrandSlam Latin in Chengdu, CHN.
Opening Ceremonies in China tend to be in a league of their own when it comes to the number of performers, the choreographies and, generally, the level of perfection in the execution of the technical elements. The one in Chengdu - opening the international portion of the DanceSport Festival - was certainly no exception. Here are a few photos taken by Dr Roland. His videos are to follow soon ...
Ahead of the 2012 GrandSlam Latin in Chengdu, CHN, tomorrow, on 15 July, Dr Helmut Roland rushed through the city and surroundings ... on the tourist trail.
The National Youth DanceSport Championships here in Chengdu comprise competitions for age groups Juvenile through Youth, i.e. young athletes born between 2004 and 1994. The Chinese DanceSport Federation (CDSF) estimates that more than 10 million children and adolescents in China have taken up the sport because of its unique appeal. The attire worn in competition is obviously part of that too!
Even though a strict CDSF dress code applies for the youngest dancers taking to the floor, they seem to find ways of expressing their individuality (and preferences for a brand) ... JUST DO IT.

Dr Helmut Roland, the WDSF Communications team member on site in Chengdu, CHN, always tests the quality of the Internet access first at the hotels he is staying at. Others bounce onto the bed. After the welcome dinner for the participants in tomorrow's GrandSlam Latin he went straight to his room and sent us a collection of photographs: 200 kbps ... Too slow for our purposes, but hopefully the speed will be much better from the venue tomorrow.
Now that we got all these reception pictures in, why not put them up here? Bulk upload - you sort it out. Food was reportedly delicious and speeches were reasonably short!
