2012 World Standard

Even In Brisbane, AUS ... 01/12/2012

Michael Glikman - Milana Deitch, AUS The Brisbane Times also carries a short feature on DanceSport in today's edition. Staff writer John Mangan interviewed one of the two home teams in the 2012 World Standard: Michael Glikman - Milana Deitch, AUS.

Six burning questions for Michael Glikman ...

1. More than 200 competitors from 50 countries are taking part in the World DanceSport Championship in Melbourne this weekend. How long have you and your partner, Milana Deitch, been a team?

Michael: We've actually been dancing together for 16 years. We knew each other before we started dancing in the same dance studio. Our teacher thought it would be a good idea to pair up.

The Dream Life 01/12/2012

The Age Melbourne newspaper The Age publishes an article on DanceSport in its today edition. "The leg spinners - quick, quick, slow" is the headline and it captures some of the sights and sounds at the Hisense Arena ... John Elder, the article's author concludes: "It's all legs before the wickets here!"

THERE'S always some clown at the footy who spits out his tonsils yelling something like: ''Carn, Shaaane.''

You hear the same thing at the Australian DanceSport Championships, where glitzy elegance steps away from the ballroom and into the coliseum of Hisense Arena. On the floor, the dancers are all poise, while the crowd is increasingly rowdy.

''Push it, push it!'' a young man screams, urging on a couple of 11-year-olds doing the Junior Foxtrot.

And it also features an interview (video) with Freythor Ossurarson - Hrefna Dis Halldorsdottir, ISL.

Two young Icelandic dancers, who are in Melbourne for Sunday's World DanceSport Championship, share what it's like to be travelling and competitive dancers.

From The Gala Dinner 01/12/2012

A very formal gala dinner was the last in a series of events that were to precede tomorrow's (which downunder is today's) World DanceSport Championship Standard in Melbourne.

The athletes and officials together with their fabulous hosts sat down for an exquisite dinner at the Sofitel Melbourne on Collins hotel.

Speeches were held and some of the participants were honoured for their contributions to the success of the 2012 World Standard ... plus the other two World Championships (2004, 2008) already staged in Australia's sporting capital.

WDSF Treasurer Tony Tilenni received an award for his meritous work for and on behalf of DanceSport in Australia. Congratulations!
