The Home of The Giant Panda

Chengdu The 2013 Chengdu International DanceSport Festival brings dancers from around the world back to the "Home of the Giant Panda," a label the city takes pride in carrying. But with the festival going into its third edition, Chengdu has also established itself as China's "DanceSport Capital." We reported about the festival's ambitious format in last year's blog on the Chengdu GrandSlam Latin (here).

This year, youth will be the overriding theme, with the World Youth Latin as well as National Championships both Standard and Latin in Juvenile, Junior and Youth age groups. Once more, well over 2,000 participants will be involved in the competitions staged over the next days at the he Shuangliu Sports Centre. Two WDSF World Opens are also scheduled: Standard on 13 and Latin on 14 July!

The WDSF Communications team will put its focus on the World Youth Latin on 13 July and report from the championship venue as close to real-time as the conditions there will allow for. One factor that will need to be considered: YouTube is blocked in mainland China and videos will need to get relayed through another country to get posted there.

Here is a look at the festival's opening ceremony in 2012!
