Money Well Spent

Mallorca DanceSport Challenge © J. Mora A news item looked at the impact that the DO World DanceSport event in Cambrils had on the local economy over the past weekend (click here). Similar observations can obviously be made about the Mallorca DanceSport Challenge too.

The event organiser, Gabriel Riera, emphasised during a recent press conference that the 600 dancers were also tourists with a considerable "acquisitive power" who enjoy "dining at restaurants, renting cars and making purchases during their stay." What is remarkable in that respect is the fact that the average stay of the dancers is five days.

Overall, the economic impact of the DanceSport Challenge is estimated at 350,000 € - and that with a budget of 50,000 € for the event itself. 23,000 € are subsidies from the municipal government.

An article in El Mundo elaborates on the above and makes reference to the "worldwide transmission of the event through the Internet." Well, to do that properly, we would have needed a little bit of help with access to the latter from the Galatzó Hall.
