One of the biggest highlights of the DanceSport year is taking place this Saturday in Moscow (RUS) with the 2019 WDSF World Championship Latin. The event which attracts the best couples, most viewers online, and a huge amount of spectators on site at the venue, will be competed on the same day with another viewer-appealing World Championship, the 2019 WDSF World Championship Formation Standard.

The home turf couple, Armen Tsaturyan – Svetlana Gudyno (RUS) will start the Championship as the reigning World Latin Champions. Last year in Ostrava (CZE) the couple made their dreams come true by winning the title for the first time in their career. Their incredible row of winnings has continued since the beginning of 2018, and the home crowd at Megasport Arena is ready to show full support to the couple to continue on the same path.

The challengers from Germany, France and Hungary, amongst others, will also have another home turf couple to beat, as Andrey Gusev – Vera Bondareva (RUS) hit the floor together with their peers. Last year the couple finished fourth, barely outside the podium, but this year they could be prone to surprise everyone and to make it to the podium with the extra support shown by the home crowd.

There are 87 couples on the starting list, representing 52 countries. Maximum two couples per country have been nominated by the WDSF National Member Bodies (NMBs) to take part in the World Championship. It is safe to say they represent the best of Latin dancing in their countries, and they have earned their chance to compete for the World title.

The 2019 WDSF World Championship Formation Standard has 12 formations representing seven countries registered. Vera Tyumen Standard Team (RUS) has been dominating the scene for a couple of years, winning the World title three times in a row since 2016. They are on the starting list again, together with another Russian formation, Duet Perm Standard Team. In the past few years, the margins in scores have been minimal, and an exciting Championship with thrilling and innovative choreographies will be expected on Saturday.

The unique setting with two World Championship events is hosted by the All Russian Federation of DanceSport and Acrobatic Rock’n’Roll (FDSARR), and the first beats and tunes of the World Championship Day will be played at noon local time (11:00 CET). The new World Champions in Formation Standard will be announced at about 21:00 local time (20:00 CET) and the new World Latin Champions will be announced at about 22:30 local time (21:30 CET).

WDSF will broadcast both World Championships on DanceSportTotal.com.
