Even if the winners were declared by 8 p.m. already, it was a long day for all involved in the first ever U-21 World Latin. The nine Ajudicators had their work cut out too: 91 couples danced in the inaugural edition from 10:30 a.m.
The number of entries in this open world championship signals that introducing the age group does meet the demand in many WDSF member countries. Young athletes benefit from a transitionary competition period that allows them to adapt more gradually to dancing in Adult.
As in many other sports, there seems to be very little difference in terms of quality between U-21 and the "unlimited" age division. Maybe the future will see dancers making it to the absolute elite at an earlier age thanks to U-21!
