Introduction

The WDSF has developed the WDSF Technical Examination as a measure to standardize the qualifications needed for Standard and Latin dance techniques. This Technical Examination can be used for the following purposes:

  1. For applicants who need to take WDSF Technical Examinations in order to fulfil the requirements in obtaining an adjudicator's license
  2. To receive a form of certification of proficiency in Standard and Latin dance techniques
  3. For member bodies to adopt the Technical Examination as part of their existing education systems in establishing proficiency in Standard and Latin techniques

Scope of the Technical Examination / Conversion Examination

All candidates taking the WDSF Technical Examinations will be required to take both the THEORY and PRACTICAL (3 parts) exams.

Technical Exam - Theory

All candidates must take a Theory Test consisting of 100 multiple-choice questions (or 50 questions for the WDSF Technical Conversion Exam) on general principles in WDSF Standard, Latin books, and specific principles of individual dances applied to selected figures from each dance (10 figures in each dance - refer to WDSF Technical Exam list of figures).

Technical Exam – Practical

There are 3 parts to the practical examinations. Exam questions will be provided by the WDSF DanceSport Academy.

If the demonstration is technically incorrect or inaccurate, the examiner may ask additional questions to verify the candidate's knowledge.

To pass the exam, a Candidate must achieve a minimum, of a 60% grade for each section and each dance of the Technical Exam.

The marking sheets will be supplied by the WDSF Academy.

The candidates are marked on technical accuracy and on presentation.
