The WDSF has developed the WDSF Technical Examination as a measure to standardize the qualifications needed for Standard and Latin dance techniques. This Technical Examination can be used for the following purposes:
All candidates taking the WDSF Technical Examinations will be required to take both the THEORY and PRACTICAL (3 parts) exams.
All candidates must take a Theory Test consisting of 100 multiple-choice questions (or 50 questions for the WDSF Technical Conversion Exam) on general principles in WDSF Standard, Latin books, and specific principles of individual dances applied to selected figures from each dance (10 figures in each dance - refer to WDSF Technical Exam list of figures).
There are 3 parts to the practical examinations. Exam questions will be provided by the WDSF DanceSport Academy.
Part 1 - Perform short variations as man and lady in 5 Latin and 5 Standard dances (refer to WDSF Technical Practical Exam Compulsory Demonstration Variations –Standard/Latin
Part 2 – Explain the technical details (full chart) of 5 randomly selected figures from 10 figures listed in each dance (refer to WDSF Technical Practical Exam List of 10 figures). For WDSF Technical Conversion Exam, explain the technical details (full chart) of 3 randomly selected figures from 5 figures listed in each dance (refer to WDSF Technical Conversion Exam List of 5 Figures). The list of randomly selected figures for the exam will be provided by the Academy to the invigilator before the exam.
Part 3 - Perform 3 randomly selected figures, including 2 preceding and 2 following figures in all dances from WDSF Techniques books as man and as lady (not applicable for the Conversion exam). Exam figures will be provided by the Academy to the invigilator before the examination. If the demonstration is technically incorrect or inaccurate, the examiner may ask additional questions to verify the candidate's knowledge.
To pass the exam, a Candidate must achieve a minimum, of a 60% grade for each section and each dance of the Technical Exam.
The marking sheets will be supplied by the WDSF Academy.
The candidates are marked on technical accuracy and on presentation.
The time taken for the Conversion Examination will be shorter by approximately 40%. The passing grade is 60% for the written test and 6/10 for the practical (marked from 1 – 10)
