In previous years it was the President of the Sports Federation and Olympic Committee of Hong Kong (SF&OC), Mr Timothy Fok, who held the opening address to the GrandSlams. He repeatedly expressed his personal appreciation of DanceSport on these occasions.
Now his son Kenneth Fok took on the responsibility in the capacity of SF&OC Vice-President and he did so with a discourse that emphasised that the Hong Kong DanceSport Association (HKDSA) is expected to continue to stage major events in the future, even if this GrandSlam should be the last edition for time being.
Here is a short excerpt from Mr Kenneth Fok's address at the QE II Stadium.
Dancing requires natural agility, fitness, talent and synchronisation, a challenging combination of skills. … The Festival and the GrandSlam are of course the pinnacle events, as they attract the top dancers from around the world to compete, showcasing these unique skills. …
We in the sporting community – as well as the public, I am sure – are excited about the Kai Tak Sports Park, which is due for completion in 2022 … With state-of-the-art sporting facilities, we are in a much better position to host even more world class events to benefit the sports lovers around Hong Kong. ...
One day I hope to be invited to this event again, but by then I hope to be making this speech in the new indoor stadium of Kai Tak Park, with double, if not triple the number of spectators in attendance.
Well, Mr Fok can rest assured that the HKDSA as well as the World DanceSport Federation are both looking forward to that day too. 2022 would work out perfectly for the next GrandSlam cycle.
