2012 Beijing International DanceSport Open

2012 Beijing International Open

Behind the name of 2012 Beijing International DanceSport Open hides a line-up of four premier events in the WDSF competition calendar. In the order that they will be danced at the Ditan Gymnasium, the second edition of Beijing Open features the 2012 WDSF World Youth Latin, the 2012 World Freestyle Standard and Latin, and the third leg of the 2012 GrandSlam Standard Series.

The press conference launching the countdown to the Beijing Open was held on 4 September. More than 40 media attended, among them CCTV and Beijing TV. Among the organisers are again government and sporting authorities at national and local levels.

More than 40 nations are expected to enter teams in the World Youth Latin. For the two World Freestyle (or is it Show Dance now?) Championships top ranked couples have been specifically invited by the organisers. And the GrandSlam Standard should draw a record number of couples from Asia in addition to the others travelling the distance for prize money, ranking points and a shot at the overall series title.

This blog will report extensively on all four events, starting on 21 September. WDSF Communications team members Helmut Roland and Ferran Castañer will be on location in Beijing. Well, provided that they get their visas sorted out. (Something that wasn't very easy this time around. Let's hope it will be easier for Shanghai in December. The GrandSlam Finals!)
