Reporters With A Clear Conscience

Reporters, that’s what we thought we were until someone suggested that we are cheats …

WDSF is not the only sports governing body to report on its major competitions in a way that a regular media would. It does so because the regular media hardly ever report on DanceSport – at least not with the focus and the depth that our visitors here, our viewers on YouTube and our followers on the social media have come to appreciate.

WDSF has been commended by media professionals and by world sports leaders for the quality of its reporting. The “Live from …” blogs, the DanceSport Total YouTube channel and many of its other initiatives have been cited as best-practice models for sports federation communications.

The team that does the reporting has always been aware of its responsibility and it has gone to great length in ensuring that the coverage it produced is rigorously independent, absolutely free of bias – that it is objective and neutral at all times.

In recent weeks, however, the WDSF Communications team’s work has come under heavy critique. Certain articles that had been published here were – according to the one critic – biased in favour of certain couples and against others. Today the team stands accused – by the same person – of trying to influence the outcome of a championship through its work.

Preposterous!
