Aside from the full-length quarterfinal, each of the Vimeo on Demand programmes on the recent GrandSlam Stuttgart will offer additional bonus features. Prior to the competitions in Latin and Standard, the WDSF Communications team has recorded sit-down interviews with some of the protagonists dancing in them.

Here is the one Heidi Goetz conducted with Timur Imametdinov - Nina Bezzubova. They address highly topical issues in DanceSport and reveal a lot about themselves and their partnership.

Simone Segatori and Annette Sudol, who represent Germany and the Dance Club Astoria Stuttgart, went on to win the 2016 GrandSlam Standard Stuttgart final convincingly, outscoring their closest opponent in all five dances and with 191.64 to 187.44 in the total tally.

The first and second runners-up were the Lithuanian couples Evaldas Sodeika - Ieva Zukauskaite and Vaidotas Lacitis - Veronika Golodneva, respectively.

Maybe the atmosphere at the Beethoven Hall was not quite as electric as it was on the previous night, when the finalists in the GrandSlam Latin Stuttgart swept the spectators off their seats time after time. There are two possible explanations for that: maybe the audience had already exerted itself cheering during the Boogie Woogie final that preceded the one in Standard. Or could it have been the absence of a closely fought battle at the top - like the one between Simone, Annette and their perennial Russian opponents Dmitry and Olga that made last year's final so memorable - that kept the public in the stands more subdued?

The quarterfinal of the 2016 GrandSlam Standard Stutttgart opens up the evening session at the Beethoven Hall. Again, the traditional DanceSport venue is sold out to the last seat and square metre of standing room. If we go by last night's experiences, we should be in for another high-decibel affair today as well. Even more so as the finals of the 2016 World Championship Boogie Woogie are on the schedule as well.

We will continue to upload clips of the first five rounds of the GrandSlam Standard to our YouTube channel DanceSport Total and to this blog. The last three rounds - quarterfinal through final - will be available exclusively through our Vimeo on Demand service.

It Was Their Day 13 August 2016 12:36

Timur Imametdinov - Nina Bezzubova, RUS © Roland

During the less than two years of their partnership, Timur Imametdinov and Nina Bezzubova, GER, danced to a third place of a GrandSlam on two previous occasions. One in Moscow, the other in the 2015 GrandSlam Final in Shanghai.

But the third place they reached yesterday in Stuttgart tastes - in all likelihood - better than the others. In their report on the GrandSlam Latin final, our colleagues of the GOC press team point out that "the audience's favourites on this day were the third of the competition: Timur Imametdinov and Nina Bezzubova swept the spectators off their seats and had them in a standing ovation numerous times."

In fact, even prior to the final many of the experts talked about the couple that seemed to be particularly inspired in this GrandSlam. Below is their round-four Paso Doble!

To watch their incredible dancing during the final stages of the competition you need to get the 90-minute Vimeo on Demand programme for US$ 3.75

Olympics: Why Not? 13 August 2016 11:37

Rio 2016 © IOC

With the Games of the XXXI Olympiad in Rio de Janeiro, BRA, coinciding with the German Open Championships in Stuttgart, the local press  (Stuttgarter Zeitung | Olympia - warum nicht?) looks at the possibility of DanceSport making it to the ranks of full-fledged Olympic sport.

Staff writer Patrick Lang talked to the chief executive of the German Open Championships Ltd., Mr Wilfried Scheible, about the chances and, more specifically, about the deterrents for this to happen in the foreseeable future. That trainers regularly officiate as judges at competitions is one of the pitfalls to DanceSport's successful campaign to get onto the programme of the Games. And there are a few more!

The 2016 GrandSlam Stuttgart Magazine that is published by the World DanceSport Federation and SWAROVSKI covers the sport's Olympic ambitions on page 10: Still Worth Fighting For!
