Emanuel Valeri and Tania Kehlet, DEN, the 2016 World Champions Standard in the Professional Division, surprised everyone by announcing their retirement from competition immediately following the awards presentation at the Ceres Arena in Aarhus, DEN.
First they danced to an uncontested victory, sweeping the audience off their feet on a number of occasions. Then they brought tears to the eyes of many as they declared this World Championship to be the last competition in their long and exceptionally successful career.
Donatas Vezelis - Lina Chatkeviciute, LTU, were first runners-up, but at a distance of 14 points already. "It was our privilege to be present at this important moment for Emanuel and Tania," Donatas told us in an interview after the final. Second runners-up were Giuseppe Longarini - Katarzyna Kapral, POL, getting this bronze in their rookie yeasr as professionals.
