The Vimeo on Demande programme on the 2017 WDSF European DanceSport Championship will be available from Friday 28 April. Relive the extraordinary final that came down to the wire and that saw the powers shift, however minimally, for the first time in nearly two years.
Here is the trailer! It has been set to How You Remind Me by DJ Rico Latino (Latin Music 13) from our Music Partner Casa musica.
Nearly 70 videos and many photographs have been published already on the 2017 WDSF European DanceSport Championship Latin. But the best is still to come: a 90-minute highlight programme covering the semi-final and final in full length will be available through Vimeo on Demand from Friday 28 April 2017.
Next Friday, 21 April, WDSF Communications releases the Standard programme of the GrandSlam Wuhan. The price for a 3-months streaming period is reduced to US$ 3.25 (unfortunately, the host broadcaster failed to record the first two dances of the semi-final). Pre-order 2017 GrandSlam Standard Wuhan.
Everybody is raving about the 2017 European Latin final that was danced last night in Cambrils, ESP. The fight between the two top couples was tight in all rounds where the Judging System 3.0 was used. The quarterfinal went narrowly to Gabriele Goffredo - Anna Matus, MDA, while Armen Tsaturyan - Svetlana Gudyno, RUS, kept the upper hand in semi-final and final.
It's well worth looking at the scores!
Armen Tsaturyan and Svetlana Gudyno, RUS, were crowned European Champions for the second time in their career. After winning the 2015 European Latin in Aarhus, DEN, they surprised many by narrowly defeating their direct opponents - and possibly considered the favourites - for the 2017 title, Gabriele Goffredo and Anna Matus, MDA, in a dramatic final. In fact, it required scores of 39 points and more in the Paso Doble and in the Jive to come from behind and stage the upset by nine decimal points.
Since their third place in the 2015 GrandSlam Latin Stuttgart, which was won by the Russians too, the Moldovans remained undefeated in two World and one European Championships and altogether eight successive GrandSlams. Armen and Svetlana, on the other hand, had to content themsleves with two victories in GrandSlams - Moscow 2015 and Platja d'Aro 2016 - where Gabriele and Anna did not dance.
Two rounds of the 2017 European DanceSport Championship Latin have been completed. What was remarkable about round one was the fact that of the 75 couples that had appeared in the preliminary starting list - and that were entered by their National Member Body - only 69 did actually show up. Three couples were excused, three figure as "no-shows" with all the consequences that this has.
If we look at the live results at this point, we discover that there are hardly any suprises when it comes to the couples that will dance the quarterfinal. Check here!
Videos of rounds one and two are getting uploaded to DanceSport Total on YouTube and to the Gallery here. Check back regularly to keep abreast of all development. The decisive stages of the European Latin will become available on Vimeo on Demand in two weeks' time.
The WDSF Communications team recorded a number of interviews with couples dancing in the 2017 European Championship Latin.
Somebody going by the nick "Uniquely Made" on YouTube commented on one of the interviews: Umberto Gaudino - Louise Heise, DEN. Without endorsing the views held by "Uniquely Made" or the statements made in the interview, we publish both interview and comment.
"What an AWESOME in depth-interview! Usually these interviews are sugar-coated, but I love that Umberto is very blunt. I love it when he mentioned the placements are often pre-determined by the panel of judges, which is why he can tell how well they will do based on who's on the panel. It's what I was explaining when I said in Helinski that they deserved the final and others got upset in the comments when I mentioned how predetermined some of these results are as opposed to objective judging. It's crazy to me that the Moldovan couple wins EVERY competition when there are no real changes to their technique. To me, they shouldn't be winning by over 4 to 5 points over the others in the top 6, it should be a muchtighter race with unpredictable results each comp as opposed to it always be so predictable."
Exactly one week ago, on Saturday 8 April, the second leg of the 2017 GrandSlam Latin Series was danced in Wuhan, CHN. The 95-minute Vimeo on Demand programme is available here and has been purchase close to 100 times since 11 p.m. last night (US$ 3.75 for a 3-month streaming period).
Most of the couples in the semi-final and final in China are now in Cambrils, ESP, ready to dance the first round of the 2017 European Latin. One exception: Andrey Gusev and Vera Bondareva, RUS, who were second behind Armen Tsaturyan and Svetlana Gudyno in the Russian Championship a few weeks ago, had to leave the second berth for Russia to Timur Yusupov - Sofia Kharina. As per an established tradition, the third-placed couple dances the European and the second-placed the World, with the Champions dancing both.
