Looking Back At The Premières

Yesterday's GrandSlam Standard Helsinki was marked by a number of premières. Above all, it was the first GrandSlam ever to be adjudicated with the new Judging System 3.0 and - this is important - with the system offering the adjudicators the option to assess the performances on a more differentiated scale. As opposed to the first outing of 3.0 in Tokyo on 12 March, when only 0.5 point increments were used to score the components on the usual scale from 1 to 10, the increments were reduced to 0.25 yesterday. That allowed the adjudicators to differentiate decidedly more between the performances.

Given the uniformly high level that these top couples perform at, having the option to make an finer distinction is very much welcome. The feedback from the adjudicators and the couples was very positive.

A new set of TV graphics - locators, lower thirds and standings - generated by a new software premièred as well. Without a glitch.
