During the semifinal the couples seemed like almost flying on the floor! They moved faster and lighter and easier around the floor, having plenty of space around them. Four couples had to leave the competition, and six couples proceeded to the final round.

The six finalist couples were Alexey Glukhov – Anastasia Glazunova (RUS), Evaldas Sodeika – Ieva Zukauskaite (LTU), Evgeny Moshenin – Dana Spitsyna (RUS), Evgeny Nikitin – Anastasia Miliutina (RUS), Francesco Galuppo – Debora Pacini (ITA) and Madis Abel – Aleksandra Galkina (EST).

The most interesting duels were seen during the Waltz. Sodeika – Zukauskaite danced with Galuppo – Pacini, Glukhov – Glazunova with Moshenin – Spitsyna, and Nikitin – Miliutina with Abel – Galkina. The spectators were thrilled to see these stars on the floor, doing their best to attract all eyes on themselves.

After the five dances and 15 duels the new WDSF GrandSlam Series Standard winners were announced. Evaldas Sodeika – Ieva Zukauskaite (LTU) earned the title with their incredible scores leaving a clear gap before the runners-up.

The final standings:

1. Evaldas Sodeika – Ieva Zukauskaite, LTU
2. Francesco Galuppo – Debora Pacini, ITA
3. Evgeny Moshenin – Dana Spitsyna, RUS
4. Alexey Glukhov – Anastasia Glazunova, RUS
5. Evgeny Nikitin – Anastasia Miliutina, RUS
6. Madis Abel – Aleksandra Galkina, EST

Congratulations!

The 2019 WDSF GrandSlam Series Standard Final started with short introductions, first a dance one by one in one of the five styles and then all the couples together for the Viennese Waltz. All eyes followed the couples as they were sliding across the floor in front of the appreciating Chinese crowd.

13 couples started the first round in three heats. The Master of Ceremonies took care of the atmosphere asking people to clap and cheer for their favourites. 10 couples proceeded to the semifinal, and unfortunately we had to say goodbye to Rares Cojoc – Andreea Matei (ROU), Dariusz Mycka – Madara Freiberga (POL) and Yuan Shaoyang - Qi Chongxuan (CHN).

Just like Armen and Svetlana defended their WDSF GrandSlam Series title successfully yesterday, so did the two other World Champions at their events in Germany and Spain on Saturday.

Grün-Gold-Club Bremen (GER) won their second consecutive World Championship title in their home town, Bremen (GER) at the 2019 WDSF World Championship Formation Latin. With a margin of 1.166 points in scores they defended their title successfully against Vera Tyumen Latin Team (RUS) and DUET-A Perm (RUS). The difference in scores between the Russian formations was 0.167 points. Interestingly, DUET-A Perm was ahead of Vera Tyumen Latin Team after the semifinal, but the rankings changed at the final.

At the 2019 WDSF World Championship Senior III Latin in Guadalajara (ESP), Manuel Ramirez – Julia Lopez (ESP) won their second consecutive World title with unanimous marks from the Adjudicator panel, as the panel ranked them as winners of all dances of the final. The runners-up, Oleg Eskov – Julia Mikhina (RUS) were awarded their first World Championship medals, the silver ones, and the Finnish couple Petri Järvinen – Ulla Järvinen won the bronze.

In Zielona Gora (POL), Strategic Brilliant (RUS) won the 2019 WRRC World Championship Rock’n’Roll Formation Main Class. Home Alone (HUN) won the World Cup in Rock’n’Roll Formation Juniors and the Szupergirls (HUN) won the World Cup Rock’n’Roll Formation Ladies. The World Cup title for Rock’n’Roll Dance Show Couples went also to Hungary, to Zoltan Lakics – Nikolett Lakicsne-Haramia.

Congratulations for the World Champions and the runners-up, and the World Cup winners and the runners-up!

Back in Shanghai, we are getting ready for the 2019 WDSF GrandSlam Series Standard. New Series winners will be crowned this year, and the expectations are high as the couples will surely show another level in their performances. Just like the Latin couples did yesterday.

We are sticking with the Plan B regarding the program tonight on DanceSportTotal. We will record and upload, which means the program is going out about two hours after it started in real life. And, we will do it this way as due to the numerous blockings which we are experiencing in China we are not able to send the signal out in real time.

Timetable:

GrandSlam Standard Round 1 is scheduled at 19:25Hrs local time (12:25 CET)
GrandSlam Standard Semi-final is scheduled at 20.25Hrs local time (13:25 CET)
GrandSlam Standard final is scheduled at 21:35Hrs local time (14:25 CET)

The 2019 WDSF GrandSlam Series Latin Final started with an electrifying first round with couples introducing themselves to the Chinese spectators and by setting the scene to the rest of the evening. Since there were only three rounds in the whole competition, the couples had to show their best performances starting from the first dance of the day.

After the first round we had to say goodbye to Paul Moldovan – Cristina Tatar (ROU), Yan Bangbang – Du Yujun (CHN) and Li Jiaming – Li Ziwei (CHN). Ten couples proceeded to the second round, the semifinal. And just like the procedure goes, four couples had to leave the competition after the semifinal, and six couples continued in the running to become the 2019 WDSF GrandSlam Series Latin Winners.

Andrea Silvestri – Martina Varadi (HUN), Andrey Gusev – Vera Bondareva (RUS), Charles-Guillaume Schmitt – Elena Salikhova (FRA), Edgar Marcos Borjas – Alina Nowak (POL), Marius-Andrei Balan – Khrystyna Moshenska (GER) and Armen Tsaturyan – Svetlana Gudyno (RUS) made it to the final.

There were three duels in each dance, and the couples were competing not only for the good scores but also for getting all the attention of the Chinese crowd. The signature moves of the couples in different dances earned them - without a doubt - the loudest cheers.

As the five dances were over, there could be only one winning couple. Armen Tsaturyan - Svetlana Gudyno (RUS) expressed and impressed on the dance floor not only the audience but also the adjudicator panel, and they climbed to the highest step of the podium.

The final standings:
1. Armen Tsaturyan - Svetlana Gudyno, RUS
2. Marius-Andrei Balan - Khrystyna Moshenska, GER
3. Andrey Gusev - Vera Bondareva, RUS
4. Charles-Guillaume Schmitt - Elena Salikhova, FRA
5. Andrea Silvestri - Martina Varadi, HUN
6. Edgar Marcos Borjas - Alina Nowak, POL

Congratulations!

The Opening Ceremony

The Opening Ceremonies on Saturday will have some very special performances by the GrandSlam Final couples, as they have prepared some short introduction performances with one or two their fellow couples to a music they chose by themselves. It could be anything from Reggeaton, Salsa or James Bond -tunes to a beautiful Viennese Waltz.

For all of you expecting to watch the event live from Shanghai, we have some bad news, but also some good news. Unfortunately we had to go for the plan B, which means that during this weekend in Shanghai, due to the numerous blockings which we are experiencing from China, the videos will be available at www.dancesporttotal.com 2 hours after they started.

It means we are not *exactly* live, but we will record the live program and upload it as soon as possible, without any editing or delays to DanceSportTotal. So there will be a short gap between the live events and the program on DanceSportTotal. We apologize for this force majeure.

For every downside there is an upside, too. And in this case we are thrilled to see the Best of the Best performing in Shanghai, and impressing the Chinese spectators. And we are more than happy that we had this plan B in our pockets, just in case...

The GrandSlam Latin Final - day has started 07 December 2019 04:55

Interviews © Castanyer

We started the GrandSlam Latin day with this lovely Standard couple from Estonia, Madis Abel and Aleksandra Galkina. They demonstrated some pretty unusual skills during the interview! It was so much fun and it was a really nice and positive start for the day.

But, as always in life, with positive there is unfortunately also some negative. We have been experiencing some problems with our internet connection at the venue. The guys are working really hard to find a solution and a back-up solution for the live stream at DanceSportTotal, and we are not really sure yet how everything will come up. We already have a back-up plan if the live stream doesn't go out, but let's not go there yet. We are keeping our fingers crossed so that all would work out fine this evening.

Otherwise all is running smoothly. There will be a special Opening Ceremony, of which Madis and Aleksandra didn't give us a clue yet. We are curious to find out what it is and looking forward to the evening at Luwan stadium.
