That's Him!

How did you get in contact with dancesport ?Rares Cojoc
I started dancing on my own initiative at the age of 8 years when I was in the second
grade at primary school. According to the curriculum I had 3 sport lessons per week and
after a while one of them turned into a dancing class, held by the man who was to
became my first teacher. This course lasted the whole year, but after a few weeks he
selected few of us, including myself, in order to attend dance classes at his dancing club.
And so began my story as a dancer.

What is the fascination that you are still involved in dancesport ?
I think dancing is the perfect combination between sport and art. Quoting Shakespeare
“there is no left, there is no right, there is only interpretation”. Aspect that I consider
perfectly valid in dancing. The art lets you discover something new every day. Dancing
means for me transmission of feelings through movement and through the
communication between partners. Finally, dancing is after all, a sport that leads to a
good physical development, it teaches you to learn to respects your efforts and to
respect the guy next to you.

What is your aim in dancesport ?
The ultimate aim is to become world champion.

Is there something in dancesport nowadays what you are worried about ?
I feel a bit worried about the political battles that litter the beauty of this sport.

How long are you dancing ?
I am dancing for almost 14 years.

What is your favorite dance ?
Definitely, Tango.

Who is your main trainer ?
Giordano and Catia Vanone.

Where do you mainly live ?
Despite the fact that my partner is Polish and our coaches Italians, fact that complicates
quite a lot the possibility of practice ,I tend to think that I spend most time in Romania.
That is thanks to the fact that Kasia comes to me very often as well as because Giordano
and Catia are invited to teach almost every month in Romania.

Do you have time to meet friends ?
Of course, my time is limited, but I believe that true friend are only few and therefore we
should not neglect them.

Your education, job :
At the moment I am in the third year at law school in Bucharest.

What are you going to do if there is completely unexpected a free day for you?
I would definitely do something relaxing together with my friends or my family. At the
end of the day I would spoil myself with a dinner in the city.

Do you have any hobbies beside dancing ?
I really love playing tennis. When I am at home I usually try to play every morning. It is
quite a perfect start of the day.

Do you have other talents which nobody knows so far ?
Tennis is one of them. Acting might be as well, even tough I have never tried it. I think
we are simply unlimited. Each of us has many undiscovered skills. The idea is to discover
them.

Which kind of movie could you motivate to go to the cinema ?
I do not feel attracted to a certain kind of movies only. I would certainly like to see a
good movie, even though the term ‘good’ is very subjective. In order to make a decision I
would be probably guided by the actors who play in the movie.

Imagine you are on a lonely island. What are the 3 most important things you
would take with you or you cannot imagine to live without ?
A notebook would virtually get me in contact with everyone, but without internet
connection and a socket to recharge, it becomes useless. Probably a cell phone is better. I
would take more then one battery with me. But as well, it is a multifunctional device, so
it has many positive aspects. I would also take a book to teach me survival techniques in
a pristine environment. Least but not least I would make sure that I have plenty of water
and food with me.

What are you most proud of ?
I feel proud of the fact that I have a united and happy family as well as because I am
most of the time surrounded by wise people who make an ongoing contribution to my
development as a man.

Which of your dreams would you like most to come true ?
To win the World Championship and to become a successful businessman. Above all, to
have a healthy family.

What are your targets fort he next World Championship ?
“Once men have tasted caviar, it baffles me how they settle for catfish.”  Therefore, I
wish to repeat the last year’s performance and get into the semifinal.

If you meet a person you do not know, what hits your eyes ?
Inevitably, the aspect. I feel especially drawn to the smile and the eyes of a person.
Beside that, the gestures also steal my attention.

How do you cope with stress and bad mood ?
Coping by reacting to such negative moods in order to get rid of them and not to infect
the others.

What are your personal strengths ?
I am a true fighter and therefore I generally get what I want. I am also energetic and
mostly positive and warm to the people around me, failing to stay calm. I love
discovering new thinks and I usually get excited very fast. Finally I would describe
myself as quite a funny person, too.

What is your motto in life ?
‘Being happy doesn’t mean that everything is perfect. It means you’ve decided to look
beyond the imperfections.’
