Baku or Bust 20/11/2014

Pedro Toro, Director With "Do your dance" in contention for an award at the II Baku International Sports Film Festival, it's the appropriate moment to look a little more at the film, its makers and its protagonists.

Heidi Goetz, WDSF Presidium member and chair of the Communications Commission, is currently in Baku, AZE, as the representative of the film's producer, the World DanceSport Federation. Also invited to Baku was the film's director, Pedro Toro, who couldn't make it because of prior commitments.

For the festival catalogue, we did a short write-up on Pedro's career. Here it is.

Pedro Toro was born and raised in Figueres, a town in the northeasternmost part of Spain. He would probably prefer to have the region labelled properly as Catalonia - with everything that is implied. He completed his academic studies in Barcelona and ventured into the world of audio-visual productions immediately thereafter.

Over the past 30 years, Pedro has produced an exceptionally broad range of feature films, documentaries, commercials and music videos, winning awards at festivals around the world. He received the FICTS Guirlande d’Honneur in 2006 for “Wings over Al Ain,” his acclaimed documentary about the best aerobatic pilots flying inspired routines to music above the deserts of Abu Dhabi.

Sports and music are Pedro’s passions. As a director he is regularly involved in the production of sports coverage: DanceSport is the most recent addition to a nearly endless list. As a producer, he not only works with some of Spain’s foremost artists in bringing their music to the screen, he creates his own “chill out” music with Almadrava (www.almadrava.com) too.

Pedro continues to live near Figueres and runs his company The Jump Productions (www.thejump.tv) from a studio there.

In the video below, the "Do your dance" director interviews two of the film's main protagonists, the Canadians Anton Belyayev - Antoaneta Popova, during the 2014 German Open Championships in Stuttgart.
