Champions From Day One 12/11/2014

Peter Eggleton © DanceArchives One of the nice things that comes with having a perennial host to our World Championships is that the lists of all previous World Champions in the three disciplines get updated regularly. One of the pillars in the media work that the AOC organisers carry out year after year as part of their media campaigns is the publication of an exhaustive list of ICAD/IDSF/WDSF World Champions to date. Come to think of it, WDSF should probably publish them permanently on this website.

Below is the one published for Standard from 1959 through 2013. The International Council of Amateur Dancers (ICAD) was founded in 1957, the first World Champions crowned by the WDSF-predecessor organisation were Peter Eggleton and Diana Gradwell.  Googling the names of the first Standard World Champions in history, we came up with a rather interesting article written by Peter Eggleton. Read it in the DanceArchives!

Here is the list of World Champions. Things have certainly changed from the early days. What? We let you draw your own conclusions!
