Where Have All The Videos Gone ... 02/02/2014

A sad day for DanceSport ... For nearly two years the World DanceSport Federation (WDSF) recorded lectures and lessons given by different trainers and athletes under the brand “YouTraining DanceSport” – in allusion to where the videos ended up.

Some 50 clips were uploaded to the YouTube channel of the WDSF DanceSport Academy. There, they were well received by thousands of subscribers and able to accrue close to one million views between them. Another 20 clips were awaiting release over the coming weeks.

YouTraining DanceSport as a programme aims to disseminate learning resources in the form of video to dancers around the world. Eminent trainers as well as couples have collaborated with WDSF in producing the videos and in consenting that these are made available to the international DanceSport community free of charge and without restrictions.

On 1 February 2014 WDSF was made aware of an ongoing smear campaign against trainers/couples who appear in YouTraining DanceSport videos. A group of people resorted to calumnies directed at the trainers/couples in order to express their disapproval of the videos’ content.

When a civilised debate over new ideas and contrasting views is not possible, libel and defamation cannot become its substitute.

WDSF will not tolerate that trainers/couples who have collaborated in the YouTraining DanceSport programme are being slandered. It is for this reason that all videos have been removed from the public domain. Only after discussing the options with the trainers and couples – and after obtaining legal counsel in the matter – will WDSF decide on how to proceed from this point.
