DanceSport in Tokyo 2020 13/06/2015

7 February 2014 - Sochi, RUS © IOC DanceSport is among the 26 sports that have applied for inclusion in the 2020 Olympics. By the 8 June deadline, the World DanceSport Federation submitted its application form that had been prepared jointly between members of the WDSF Managing Committee and the Japan DanceSport Federation.

The information that was provided to the Tokyo Organising Committee (TOCOG) and, specifically, to an Additional Event Programme Panel within the latter, seeks to establish that DanceSport is

  • a driving force to promote the Olympic Movement and its values, with a focus on youth appeal
  • and capable to add value to the Games by engaging the Japanese population and new audiences worldwide, reflecting the Tokyo 2020 Games vision. 

After a meeting of the TOCOG Executive Board on 12 June, all 26 applicant International Sports Federations as well as the proceedings for the screening of the submissions were announced in a press release.

The Tokyo 2020 Additional Event Programme Panel will now narrow the 26 applicants down to a shortlist to be announced on 22 June, with a final decision due to be made by the IOC in August next year.
