Wheelchair 2015 - 2016 30/09/2015

Upcoming Events The 2015 IPC Wheelchair DanceSport World Championships will take place in Rome, ITA, between 6 and 8 November 2015.

The competition organised by the Italian DanceSport Federation (FIDS) is expected to attract more than 160 athletes from up to 25 countries and will be hosted at the Bocciodromo.

It will feature freestyle and singles events for the first time, after these disciplines were added in 2014 to bring the number of medal events to 14 across class 1 and 2.

The 2015 IPC Wheelchair DanceSport World Championships wrap up the year and a very busy calendar that featured competitions in Kazakhstan, Serbia, Germany, Taiwan, Russia and Belgium.

With a view to 2016, IPC Wheelchair DanceSport launched a call for hosts for the first Asian Championships as well as for the next European Championships.

Xavier Gonzalez, the IPC Chief Executive Officer, said: “Since the 2013 World Championships were held in Tokyo, Japan, Wheelchair DanceSport has been expanding in Asia, not least with its inclusion at the Incheon 2014 Asian Para Games.

“It is clear that the sport is growing in popularity in the region, as well as enjoying a high level of performance, with some of the world’s best dancers coming from Asian countries.

“The expansion around the world is incredibly exciting but we are also keen to maintain the momentum with the next European Championships and by adding to the wider competition calendar.

“Major Championships, as well as lower-level competitions, offer organisers and host cities the chance to be part of history and make a real difference to the future of the sport."

WDSF National Member Bodies should contact Camila Rodrigues, the IPC Wheelchair DanceSport  Coordinator, for information on the bidding for these championships:
