The record particpation - which is now corrected down to 89 couples (7 went missing on their way to Slovenia) - is also a demonstration of the appreciation the world of dance has for the host country's national federation. This is the essence of a comment made
by Drago Sulek, the President of PZS, in a short interview with Heidi Götz, the IDSF Presidium Member in charge of communications. We will upload the video shortly.
Eight heats of Round 1 are history. Eleven couples per heat have completed
their Samba. As the hall is starting to fill and only the sternest supporters of the teams
have already taken their seat, cheering for couple 68, Zoran Plohl - Tatsiana Lahvinovich
(CRO), was a few decibles above the rest.
The athletes are leaving the hotel ... and the excitement
is building everywhere! One hour to go for Round 1 of the 2009 IDSF World DanceSport Championship Latin in Maribor.
IDSF First Vice-President Lukas Hinder is euphoric over
this year's record participation in the championship. "Never before have there been 96 couples entered in a World Latin," he says. "And I am convinced that we will soon break the 100!"
If wagering would be common place in DanceSport, the punters would certainly want to look at
"how the numbers stack up" before they place their bet on couple XYZ. Here are some they could well consider first:

These codes (aka marks) came out of the IDSF 2009 Grand Slam Latin in Stuttgart, GER. But no one has opened a book on the outcome of Saturday's clash between the "Latin Titans" ... yet! Thinking about it?
Many of the top contenders for
the title of 2009 World DanceSport Champion Latin took part in a "team match" on 31 October in Graz, AUT. The invitational event at the Stadthalle was organised by the local dance school Kern-Theissel and billed as the "Latin World Trophy." An audience of
3,500 paid the hefty admission for the privilege to watch Latin couples from as far away as China and South Africa warm up for the real contest - THE World Latin - which takes place on 7 November in Maribor, SLO, not even one hour's drive from Graz. The Russian
"team" made up of Alexey Silde – Anna Firstova and Andrey Zaitsev – Anna Kuzminskaya won the match on 31 October, and a respectable purse as well. One week later - and 70 km to the south - only one couple will be declared winners in earnest ... Which one?
