The World DanceSport Federation is about to make an important announcement. We strongly suggest that you return to this website tomorrow or - at the very latest - on Thursday to find out more about a development that will be of great interest to the worldwide DanceSport community!
In artistic gymnastics, Romanian athlete Nadia Comăneci will forever be remembered for being first to receive the perfect score of 10 in competition. In DanceSport, both World Freestyle Champion couples got very close in Beijing to matching Nadia's achievement with their performances.
Out of a maximum of 55 points to be awarded for absolute perfection, Vladimir Karpov - Mariya Tzaptashvilli, RUS, received 54.79 points and Simone Segatori - Anette Sudol, GER, 53.57 points. The perfect "10" was indeed awarded in some of the components that are being assessed under the new judging system.
While full results have still not been received from the competitions in Beijing (What's taking so long: last weekend we had the first ever competition with live results, and here we're waiting 48 hours or more!), we have come across a photograph with the detailed score for the performance of Vladimir and Mariya.
With traffic to our site second highest in its 19-months history, we use the opportunity to inform the many followers here of the addition of yet another "YouTraining DanceSport" video to the WDSF Academy YouTube channel. Why not subscribe to the channel to get updates every time a lecture goes up there?
Danish trainers Peter and Kristina Stokkebroe collaborated with WDSF in creating this learning resource on musicality and speed in the Cha Cha Cha. The video was recorded in August 2012 during the GOC in Stuttgart, GER.
Stories were being told all weekend through the spectacular performances of the participants in the World Freestyle Championships. None moved the audience in Beijing, CHN, more than that of Russian couple Vladimir Karpov and Mariya Tzaptashvilli.
Vladimir and Mariya won the Latin title with a routine that was based on the music - as well as on the emotions - of Steven Spielberg's 1993 award-winning movie "Schindler's List."
In due time, videos of all world championship performances will become available on our website. Here are some photos already - and more can be found in the Gallery.
