It's the day before the World Latin and things are starting to heat up. Outside temperatures included.
The Adjudicators' Congress preceding the 2012 World Latin was very well attended. Approximately 50 adjudicators had enrolled and came to the Juventus Dance Centre to benefit from outstanding lectures by Anastasia Titkova (Standard) and Barbara Ambroz (Latin).
As these pictures show, World Champions in Standard and Latin took to the floor as demonstrators during these lectures. Alexey Silde and Anna Firstova worked with Barbara, Domenico Soale teamed up with Anastasia. Both lectures were recorded and will eventuall be available on the YouTube channel of the WDSF DanceSport Academy.
Since we have provided you with nearly all of the pertinent and up-to-date information on the upcoming World Latin in Vienna already, we are able to compact the statements made by the organisers and WDSF representatives during this morning's press conference ...
Whether it was on or near the Danube, we don't know. But the organisers of the 2012 World Latin and Austrian Open had invited the media to a press conference close to a body of water in Vienna. We figured that out after looking at pictures they had time to forward - without any commentary - before rushing off to the WDSF Adjudicators' Congress that will start at 16:30 at the Juventus DanceSport Centre.
During the presentation, the media representatives had the opportunity to meet the two couples dancing for Austria on Saturday: Zufar ZARIPOV - Anna LUDWIG-TCHEMODOUROVA and Sergiy GEORGIYEV - Lena KHABLENKO.
Furthermore, the journalists were very competently briefed by the President of the Austrian DanceSport Federation, Hermann Goetz, and by the WDSF Sports Director, Marco Sietas.
The organisers of the 2012 World Latin and Austrian Open hold a press conference at 11:00 this morning. With the WDSF Communications team already on site, we will be able to report on it here.
Local and national media will be interested in the two Austrian couples taking part in Saturday's World Latin: Zufar ZARIPOV - Anna LUDWIG-TCHEMODOUROVA and Sergiy GEORGIYEV - Lena KHABLENKO.

The previous story on Monika sewing - and that by hand - the Chinese Taipei for TPE delegation makes a sttrong statement about the organisers' attitude when it comes to getting the job done. Well, it is "hands on" by all standards. Even the President of the Austrian DanceSport Federation, Hermann Goetz, is lending a helping hand in the outfitting of the Vienna "Stadthalle," the venue for Saturday's World Latin. Here he is shown together with Wolfgang Eliasch while they are about to hoist another flag. However, in this case it is CLEARLY the wrong one and could also give rise to concerns about the protocol.
Only very occasionally do these gentlemen take a break, lean back and watch the others get blisters on their hands while converting a basketball court into a splendid DanceSport venue.
Nobody knows whether it was in fact Betsy Ross who made the first American flag for George Washington. But after continuing your read you will know with absolute certainty who the expert seamstress behind the first Chinese Taipei flag (hand) made in Austria is.
The problem was one of protocol. World Latin organiser Wolfgang Eliasch needed a flag that was not available anywhere in Vienna for it to be carried by Leo Lin and Ya Yen Chen, TPE, in the athletes' parade on Saturday.
If you should be wondering what the "TPE" stands for, it is the crucial part of the protocol that makes the flag an absolute "must have" for Wolfgang. The Olympic country code stands for Chinese Taipei which - in world sports - is the politically correct name for the Republic of China (ROC) - aka Taiwan. The 1979 Session of the International Olympic Committee came up with it, the ROC government formally accepted it in 1981, and the late IOC President Juan Antonio Samaranch suggested a flag to go with it at the same time.
It is actually the flag of the "Chinese Taipei Olympic Committee" that is flown at all international sporting events ever since. But finding one in Vienna for the 2012 World Latin proved impossible. Enter Monika! A gifted seamstress and DanceSport enthusiast comes to the rescue! Wolfgang made a plotter print on paper, Monika did the rest - by hand. Olympic rings, intricate patterns, all sewn onto white cloth! Amazing!
A matter of protocol - and cross-strait politics - was handled by an inspired artist.
The Congress for Adjudicators held in connection with the Austrian Open and the 2012 World Latin takes place at the Juventus DanceSport Centre (Taborstrasse 69, 1020 Vienna) on Thursday 15 November.
Barbara Ambroz (Latin) and Anastasia Titkova (Standard) are the lecturers. Contact Wolfgang Eliasch at mobile phone + 43 664 401 0908!

A few videos combined into one help to set the scene ahead of the upcoming 2012 WDSF World DanceSport Championship Latin in Vienna, AUT, on 17 November. You've seen most of it before, but this time it's put in sequence to help answer one question.
"Who'll be the new World Champions!"
