60th Amber Couple Competition: A Landmark Anniversary Edition in Kaunas

The city of Kaunas, Lithuania, hosted the 60th edition of the “Amber Couple” Competition on 2 and 3 May, with dancers from all over the world taking part over two days of DanceSport competitions and events.

Dancers from 43 Lithuanian DanceSport clubs participated in the event over the two competition days, alongside athletes from 17 countries, including Lithuania, Estonia, Latvia, Romania, Poland, Denmark, Germany, Ukraine, China, France, San Marino, Austria, Japan, the Philippines, Finland, and the Czech Republic.

Across the weekend, the event attracted an impressive audience of approximately 12,000 spectators, underlining the strong popularity and cultural relevance of DanceSport in the region and the continued international growth of the “Amber Couple” competition.

A Historic Event in Lithuanian DanceSport

Organised in Kaunas, the “Amber Couple” has long been regarded as one of the most traditional and respected DanceSport events in the Baltic region. The 60th anniversary edition reaffirmed its status as a key meeting point for both rising talents and world-class athletes, combining high-level competition with artistic performance and cultural celebration.

The event featured a wide range of WDSF competitions across Standard and Latin maintaining a strong international field and a high technical standard throughout both days of competition.

Highlights of the Final Competitions and Gala Evening

The highlight of the event was the final competition session and gala concert, which combined sport, live music, and artistic performance in a unique celebration format.

The audience had the opportunity to experience the legendary dance “Birds”, performed by DanceSport club “Sūkurys” and its coaches, world and European champions Lina and Donatas Vėželiai. The performance was specially dedicated to the 60th anniversary of the “Amber Couple” Competition.

The gala program also featured performances by: Edgaras and Indrė Baltaragiai, multiple-time Lithuanian champions, Super Grand Prix medalists, and European vice-champions; and Dmitrij Kolobov and Signe Busk, ten-time Danish champions and World Amateur Standard bronze medalists.

Musical and artistic contributions included Lithuanian singer Linas Adomaitis, the KTU Academic Choir “Jaunystė”, children’s choirs “Dangi” and “Dangiukai” from Aleksandras Kačanauskas Music School, as well as a performance by the children of DanceSport club “Sūkurys”. The hip-hop studio “Aušrinė – Vakarė” also delivered a dynamic performance that captivated the audience.

Live music during the finals was performed by Gabija Li together with a live band, further enhancing the atmosphere of the evening.

The 60th “Amber Couple” Competition in Kaunas once again confirmed its importance as a cornerstone event in the international DanceSport calendar. With thousands of spectators, strong international participation, and a unique combination of sport and artistic performance, the anniversary edition celebrated both tradition and evolution within the discipline.
