WDSF: A Landmark Year of Growth and Global Engagement in 2025

2025 has been a landmark year for the World DanceSport Federation (WDSF), with licence numbers surpassing 22,800, marking the highest level of participation in the federation’s history. This remarkable growth reflects the vibrant global DanceSport community and the federation’s ongoing commitment to innovation, inclusivity, and competitive excellence.

The growing global profile of DanceSport has played a key role in WDSF’s record participation in 2025. While the historic debut of Breaking at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games brought the sport to a wider international audience and inspired dancers of all ages, this milestone also reflects the federation’s sustained investment in education, the development of new disciplines, and initiatives that engage the global DanceSport community.

The 2025 WDSF DanceSport Festival in Blackpool stood out as a highlight of the year. Hosted at the iconic Winter Gardens, the festival celebrated both the artistry and athleticism of Standard and Latin disciplines, drawing competitors and spectators from around the globe and cementing Blackpool’s reputation as a hub of DanceSport excellence.

Looking ahead, the WDSF community is gearing up for more landmark events in 2026. The World Breaking DanceSport Festival in Brisbane, taking place on 17–18 January, promises to showcase elite-level competition and serve as a major growth platform for Breaking in Oceania. Meanwhile, the 2026 Youth Olympic Games in Dakar will provide young B-Boys and B-Girls with an international stage, reinforcing WDSF’s commitment to developing the next generation of talent.

Beyond marquee events, the federation continues to expand its reach across disciplines including Disco, Hip Hop, and Stage Dance, attracting diverse communities and broadening the appeal of WDSF membership worldwide. As WDSF President Shawn Tay emphasised,

“Our growth is driven by a shared passion for DanceSport and a commitment to inclusivity and innovation.”

With record participation, high-profile events, and growing international recognition, 2025 underscores WDSF’s leadership in the evolution of DanceSport, celebrating both tradition and innovation while inspiring athletes worldwide.
