WDSF to align its regulations with new IOC guidance following Olympic Summit

Following the conclusions of the 14th Olympic Summit held in Lausanne, the World DanceSport Federation (WDSF) acknowledges the latest guidance issued by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) regarding the participation of athletes, with particular reference to youth competitions.

The Olympic Summit reaffirmed the fundamental right of athletes to access sport free from political interference, while underlining the importance of political neutrality within the Olympic Movement. In this context, the IOC confirmed updated principles regarding the participation of athletes holding Russian or Belarusian passports.

Notably, the IOC has clarified that youth athletes from these countries should no longer face restrictions in international youth competitions, including the Youth Olympic Games in Dakar 2026, while existing IOC recommendations of 28 March 2023 continue to apply only to senior competitions.

In line with these principles, WDSF has initiated an internal review of its regulations, operational policies, and competition protocols to ensure alignment with IOC guidance. This process remains underway, and the Federation is working carefully to adapt its framework in accordance with its established governance procedures and in close coordination with relevant internal bodies.

WDSF is reviewing its protocols regarding flags, anthems, uniforms, and the accreditation of officials, in line with IOC guidance. The Federation is also assessing how to ensure that international events are organized in accordance with these principles, including the current guidance on Russia and Belarus. These measures will be implemented following WDSF’s governance procedures.

WDSF recognises that full implementation of these recommendations will require careful assessment and time. The Federation remains fully committed to upholding the Olympic values, protecting the integrity of DanceSport, and ensuring fair and transparent conditions for all athletes, in line with IOC guidance. Further updates on the adaptation of WDSF regulations and practices will be communicated once the relevant processes have been completed.
