Set to ABBA’s iconic anthem "The Winner Takes It All" on social media, that 15-second moment of unscripted joy went viral within days, having surpassed 25 million views to date and turning a sporting milestone into a global digital phenomenon.
Yet, behind the viral numbers lies a story that social media algorithms rarely show: the reality of an athlete balancing “work and a thousand daily commitments”, training before dawn, and learning to command the world's biggest dance floors entirely on her own.
Following her historic victory against a field of 73 international competitors, the WDSF sat down with Eleonora Cabras to explore the story behind the screen, the mental shift of dancing solo, and her vision for a new era of female athletes in DanceSport.
The Reality Behind the Screen: Dawn Workouts and Silent Effort
To millions scrolling online, Cabras’ reaction was a refreshing burst of emotion. To Eleonora, it was the instant release of months of intense discipline and non-traditional training schedules.
Unlike full-time professional athletes with dedicated training camps, Cabras had to build her gold-medal preparation around daily work commitments, fitting training sessions into whatever hours remained.
"Behind every competition, there is so much more than what people see on the floor," Cabras reflects. "There is continuous hard work, daily sacrifices, and moments of exhaustion shed in silence between the constant desire to push your limits. The preparation for Stuttgart was the most demanding of all. Between my job and daily responsibilities, I had to fit lessons into every possible gap, very often at dawn or late into the night."
When her name was called in first place, the emotional release was instantaneous.
"That moment in Stuttgart, those tears, were the meaning of it all. After everything I have given to this sport, it was like telling myself: it was all worth it.", said Eleonora.
The Solo Latin Movement: Redefining Female Ownership on the Floor
Cabras’ triumph also highlights one of the fastest-growing evolutions in modern DanceSport: the rise of Solo Latin. Having spent her early career competing with a partner, stepping onto the floor alone required a complete transformation in physical conditioning and competitive psychology.
"Compared to competing with a partner, everything changes," Cabras explains. "When dancing in a couple, the energy is shared and your attention is split between your partner and the floor. Mentally, when you step out alone, you take 100% of the responsibility for your performance. You cannot lean on anyone. The energy has to be entirely yours, and it has to fill the whole arena."
Despite the individual exposure on stage, Cabras emphasizes that her rise is grounded in strong teamwork behind the curtain. "My growth comes from consistency, passion, and the daily drive from my coaches. There is a massive team effort behind the scenes that people don't see, but it is absolutely fundamental."
From Steps to Storytelling: The Maturity of a Champion
Like many young dancers, Cabras’ journey began as a childhood dream in a local dance studio. Over the years, DanceSport became far more than an athletic pursuit; it served as her masterclass in life.
"My journey started when I was very little, like for many girls, as a game. You enter DanceSport, fall in love with it, and never leave," she smiles. "At the beginning, I was only thinking about steps, technique, and not making mistakes. Today, I understand that technique is just the foundation to be able to convey genuine emotion."
That shift from mechanical execution to artistic maturity is what ultimately defined her gold-medal performance in Stuttgart.

Looking ahead toward the upcoming WDSF World and European Solo Latin Championships, her goals remain fiercely competitive and deeply rooted in broader advocacy for the sport.
"For me, Stuttgart is not a finish line, but a starting point," Cabras concludes firmly. "Now that I have reached this milestone, my goal is to continue to grow, to further improve my performances, and to bring the Italian colors even higher on the international stage. But the biggest challenge I set for myself is to show the world that Solo Latin is not a second choice, it is a wonderful, elite discipline where a woman can truly shine on her own."
