Highlights of the day, 19th October

WDSF World Open (New Series) Standard Adult

The WDSF World Open (New Series) Standard Adult podium delivered both a fresh champion and strong statements from familiar contenders.

First place was for Yahor Boldysh and Irina Averina (GER). This marks their first victory in a WDSF World Open (New Series) event — a milestone achievement. Last year at this same Brno event they placed third, so their leap to the top spot reveals both progress and consistency. Their competitive vitae show several of strong International Open wins and podium finishes in smaller events, but this Brno title gives them the kind of result that highlights their emergence among the elite.

Taking the silver were Kirill Pavlov and Kristina Shinkariuk (ESP). They have a solid competition history as they demonstrate their skills on their second-place spot in a World Open (New Series) in Seoul in April 2024. Their performance in Brno indicates they are firmly in contention for the gold.

Completing the podium in third were Butnaru Luca Teodor and Bidica Julia Denisa (ROU). While their previous record in major World Open or Grand Slam events shows fewer top-finishes, they have been steadily climbing the ranks — for instance a 4th place at Brno in 2024. This bronze marks an important step for them into the top-tier.

In fourth place were Pawel Subczynski and Aleksandra Kucharska (POL). They have demonstrated flashes of significant potential, such as a strong placement in the World Cup in Chengdu where they finished 4th. Their Brno result confirms their readiness to push into the podium places.

Fifth and sixth spot went to Tomas Janonis and Daryna Antonova (UKR) and Alexander Pavlov and Mie Udesen (DEN), respectively. These couples continue to show respectable performances in this competitive field; for Janonis – Antonova the result at Brno is another helpful data point in their progression, while the couple Pavlov – Udesen maintain their presence in finals which is vital for ranking consolidation.

Overall, the Brno Open podium not only celebrates Yahor Boldysh and Irina Averina’s first World Open title but also signals that the field is highly competitive — the margin between places is narrowing, and several couples are poised to challenge for the top in upcoming events.

WDSF World Open (New Series) Latin Adult

The 2025 Brno WDSF World Open (New Series) Latin Adult delivered an exciting result that highlighted both breakthrough success and international depth across the field. Claiming the top of the podium were Tomas Gal and Sabina Karaskova (CZE), securing their first-ever victory in a WDSF World Open (New Series) event. Their performance was nothing short of inspired, combining precision, charisma, and unmistakable confidence before a home crowd. This triumph follows their impressive reach of being among the top 20 couples in the World Championship Latin Adult that took place yesterday — a testament to their growing stature on the international scene. For Gal and Karaskova, the Brno title represents not just a career milestone but a powerful statement of intent for the remainder of the competitive year.

Finishing in second place were Yu Zhengmin and Huo Zitong (CHN), who once again showcased their trademark intensity and technical clarity. This duo has built a reputation as one of Asia’s most consistent Latin couples, frequently appearing in the finals of international events such as the World Open in Chengdu and the Asian Championship circuit. Their runner-up result in Brno underlines their continuing upward trajectory on the global stage.

The bronze spot went to Vitalii Zakharov and Tabea Louisa Thaler (GER), who continue to demonstrate solid form since entering the New Series circuit earlier this year. Their dynamic performance and clean technical execution earned them a well-deserved podium spot, consolidating their reputation as one of Germany’s most promising Latin pairs.

In fourth place Vladyslav Tsykhanovskyi and Veronika Tsikhanovska (GER) delivered a stylish and consistent performance, narrowly missing the podium. Their steady progression through recent competitions — including strong finishes in the European Open series — suggests that a breakthrough result may soon be within reach.

Petcu Andrei and Motoc Alexandra (GER) claimed fifth place, marking one of their strongest results to date in an event of this calibre. Their energy and precision across the rounds point to continued development and growing chemistry on the floor.

Rounding off the final were Andrea Civita and Eleonora De Mitri (ALB), who earned sixth place. Their participation in several recent World Open events shows a consistent commitment to international competition, and reaching the final in Brno reaffirms their ability to compete among Europe’s leading Latin couples.

Overall, the Brno Open Latin final reflected the vibrant diversity and competitiveness of today’s WDSF World Open (New Series) circuit — with Gal and Karaskova’s maiden victory standing out as one of the most memorable moments of the weekend.

Beyond Competition - The Spirit of Brno

Beyond its results, the 2025 Brno Open once again showcased the unifying spirit of DanceSport. Across two full days of competition, from Youth to Junior and Adult categories, couples from all over the world shared the same stage — each bringing their story, discipline, and joy of movement.

Shawn Tay, President of the WDSF, stated:

“Brno continues to set the benchmark for excellence in DanceSport. The passion, talent, and spirit displayed here inspire not just competitors, but the entire dance community worldwide. Events like this remind us why we love this sport.”

With vibrant performances, enthusiastic crowds, and outstanding organisation, Brno reaffirmed its status as a city where dance thrives. As the music faded and the lights dimmed, one thing was clear: this was more than a competition — it was a celebration of art, athleticism, and community.
