The dark side of (sports) politics: a diplomatic incident was brought about by the organisers hoisting the inappropriate flag for Chinese Taipei (a.k.a. Taiwan) ... The Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Vilnius filed a formal complaint and - just prior to the Opening Ceremony - the flag was "withdrawn," i.e. it was taped over with a black adhesive.
Maybe not the best choice of colour considering that - as of lately - black is associated with a band of terrorists claiming to be a state.
Taiwan - as per the Nagoya Resolution of the International Olympic Committee - enters as "Chinese Taipei" in all international sports events, flies a specifically designed flag (that includes Olympic rings) and has a special anthem played if it wins gold.
