Final System Failure

Opening Ceremony

The 2016 WDSF GrandSlam Final Latin started with a big "Bang!" and concluded with an even bigger "Bang! Bang!" ... In between, the audience present at the Luwan Stadium got to enjoy some of the best DanceSport that has been shown anywhere - ever.

To get it all started, the organisers of the "Final Showdown in Shanghai" flipped the giant lever to set off fireworks on the LED screen during the opening ceremony. What followed were two hours of spectacular Latin dancing that dazzled the crowd of 3,000. Everything was looking great when, all of the sudden, disaster struck and a total system meltdown began. When Timur Imametdinov - Nina Bezzubova, GER, the second to last couple to dance the Jive in the final, went to the "Kiss & Cry" area to get their scores, the drama started to unfold.

They never came up! Nor did the scores for the last couple that danced in the final, Andrea Silvestri - Varadi Martina, HUN. The standing for the Jive and the standing after all five dances never made it to the LED screen either. A total system meltdown because of a network switch, as it turns out a gadget that you simply cannot do without ... Maybe we should have a spare next time around!

The results were retrieved eventually - about 15 minutes later - and are online now. GrandSlam Champions for the third time running: Gabriele Goffredo - Anna Matus, MDA, with one of the highest total scores ever. 195.47 points! Check the full results here!
