24 couples had qualified for these GrandSlam Finals on the basis of the number of points they had accumulated in minimum four of the five legs of the 2016 Series. The GrandSlam Latin Ranking after five legs is available here.
You will observe that Marius-Andrei Balan and Khrystyna Moshenska, GER, have met the qualification criteria with 3999 points total, four entries in regular legs and a third position in the ranking. But unfortunately they are not in Shanghai, CHN, today or tomorrow. Marius-Andrei came down with a high fever and was unable to travel.
We wish him a speedy recovery! As has happened before, it's precisely the absent couple that is very prominently featured on all the YouTube clips (see below). A jinx?
