2012 Slovak Open Championships 10/09/2012

For many years, Slovakia has been a popular destination on the European DanceSport competition scene. But not until this past weekend was there such a thing as Open Slovak Championships.

Now, and for the first time ever, three established event organisers decided to join forces and stage their competitions concurrently under this label. The collaborating organisers and their clubs were Milan and Marcella Spanik of Tsk M+M Bratislava, Miroslav Balun of KTC and Petr Horacek of TK Uni Dance.

All three collaborated with the DanceSport Federation of Slovakia to stage the first ever edition of Slovak Open Championships.

In 2012, the Standard and Latin tournaments were World Opens. More than 60 couples entered and 12 star couples per section ensured a very high level of dancing.

Also over the past weekend, the Prague Open was staged in the neighbouring Czech Republic, featuring competition of the new World Open category as well. The plan was to provide couples with the opportunity to dance twice on one weekend in two different countries. Although the organisers provided shuttles, the couples did not really pick up on the idea.  350 km between Bratislava and Prague proved to be to far a distance to travel.
