2012 Champions' Cup | Standard 01/09/2012

Luzhniki Sports Centre

Live from Moscow's premier address for sports, the Luzhniki Centre, you should be able to enjoy a DanceSport competition that is different from others.

A video stream courtesy of Moscow DanceSport and dancesport.ru allows you to watch some of the world's best Standard couples in action at the Luzhniki Centre.

Heidi Goetz, who is in the Russian capital at this very moment, writes about the 2012 Champions' Cup.

One of the most important Russian holidays is the "Day of Moscow" - always celebrated on the first weekend in September. Moscovites and visitors get to enjoy cultural and sport programmes in various places around Moscow. The Moscow Government and the Moscow Sports Department organise the presentation of 40 different sports at the Luzhniki Centre.

The first event was a 45-minute show presenting 3 couples in Juvenile. And the first winners ever were the meanwhile successful Youth couple Sergey Ruzhkov and Marina Zakharova.

The original idea to present DanceSport was a show programme on a very high level, embedded in maximum 45 minutes.

The formula, developed over the last seven years, for these presentations is to invite 6 top couples from all over the world, all of them national champions, World Champions, winners of World Cups. They perform in all 5 dances of their discipline, danced in a group as well as solo, do a show, and changing the dress for every dance.

In the last years the organisers Valery and Galina Gulay could welcome very popular couples: Vescovo - Törökgyörgy, Bosco - Pitton, Silde - Firstova, Langella - Moshenska, Kosaty - Glazik, etc.

This year the Standard dances are the main programme element , invited couples are

  • Bennedetto Ferruggia and Claudia Koehler, GER
  • Evaldas Sodeika and Ieva Zukauskaite, LTU
  • Anton Smolyaninov and Natalya Beklemisheva, KAZ
  • Andrzej Sadecki and Karina Nawrot, POL
  • Salvatore Todaro and Violeta Yaneva, BUL
  • Sergey Konovaltsev and Olga Konovaltseva, RUS

To present the Latin dances as well,  a formation of Russian Juvenile and Junior couples is invited. Timur Imametdinov and Ekaterina Nikolaeva, RUS , Russian and European Ten Dance Champions are to be seen in their Latin show. Also Daniil Ulianov and Irina Gogoladze, Russian Champions in Ten Dance and winners of the World Cup in Ten Dance, will present a Latin showprogram.

As a special highlight the winners of the recently held Russian Freestyle Championship Vladimir Karpov and Maria Tzaptashvili and Fedor Polyanskiy and Dina Akhmetgareeva show their new routines.
