Opening out – inspiring motto of the IDSF Academy workshop in Vienna
Science and other dance forms – what can we learn from them? This question was answered during the workshop in a tremendously interesting manner. The new and in every aspect fantastic TSK Juventus studios formed an ideal venue for the IDSF Academy acitivity.
Dr. Peter Scheiber from the sports science institute at University of Salzburg (world famous for the development work in skiing technique) demonstrated the vast possibilities of dynamic force measurements in dancing. Thorough in-depth analysis can be used in practice (and perhaps future judging?) to clearly discriminate between good and less successful technical performances. Use of feet, balance and even clarity of rhythm can be measured in absolute terms and used as a feedback tool for quicker and more purposeful development of basic dancing skills.
Bruno Genty, teacher and choreographer of Opera de Paris and several universities of arts motivated the attendants to try out ideas and methods of modern contemporary ballet in e.g. leading, following and partnering. Finding contact to one’s own centre and producing the optimal posture by breathing exercises “opened out” many minds that afternoon.
Zeljko Bozic, international lecturer, teacher and renowned choreographer in Hip Hop, assisted by Peter Majzelj and Maja Gersak,, professional Latin-American dancers, all from Slovenia brought a lot of fun into the group. The fast and highly coordinative movements of Hip-Hop were quite a challenge especially for some of the “ballroom only” participants. The professional couple gave some well thought out examples, then many others tried innovative ways to display much more “story” in their normal competitive routines.
The idea of such events was highly appreciated and undoubtedly a great success for the IDSF Academy and even more so for the participants.
