Birmingham Ratified 21/04/2015

IWGA Executive - 2021 Birmingham The agenda of today's General Meeting of the International World Games Association (IWGA) was altered as consequence of yesterday's occurrences in Sochi, RUS (click here).

A change of the IWGA Constitution allowing International Federations to remain in the association that governs The World Games without a SportAccord membership was discussed. The constitution currently stipulates that all members must also be a member of SportAccord.

However, at least one IWGA Member Federation had resigned its SportAccord membership in protest over the statements made yesterday by SportAccord President Marius Vizer.

In his opening address to the General Meeting, IWGA President José Perurena, who is also an IOC member and President of the International Canoe Federation, emphasised how, contrary to Vizer’s claims, all International Federations had been fully consulted throughout the Agenda 2020 process. He also vowed to work towards closer relations between the IOC and IWGA.

After the General Meeting ratfied the award of The World Games 2021 to the city of Birmingham, USA, the members of the IWGA executive proceeded to formalise the Host City Contract with a delegation led by Birmingham Mayor William A. Bell. WDSF First Vice-President Lukas Hinder - who appears in the photo above - is a member of the IWGA Executive Committee since 1997.
