Carlos Freitag, WDSF President 27/01/2016

Carlos and Evelyn Freitag © Wang Yi When Carlos Freitag announced to his colleagues on the WDSF Presidium that he would not finish his third term as President of the World DanceSport Federation, he was able to do so with the conviction that much of a gargantuan task had been completed already.

In his capacity as General Secretary and later as President, Carlos was in the engine room and at the helm of DanceSport's governing body as it navigated its way into the new millennium. That the sport has changed more than ever before during his mandates as WDSF President is merit of his drive and his persistence. Quite possibly the very traits that also led to the health problems which have now made it advisable for him to step down and concentrate on his full recovery.

The list of his achievements is nearly endless, and when we asked Carlos to jot them down on a piece of paper, they ended up filling more than two A4 pages. As we read through them we realise just how much change he brought to DanceSport during his presidency. Dancers around the world join the WDSF Presidium in saying: "¡Muchisimas gracias, Carlos!"
