Colombia 20/01/2012

FCBDC Dr Jorge Guiterrez is President of the Ecuadorean DanceSport Federation and a member of the WDSF Membership Commission. In that quality he elaborated an exhaustive report on DanceSport activities across Latin America during the year 2011.

In Colombia, the growing DanceSport community is progressing well with the official recognition of the the newly founded Colombian DanceSport Federation (Federación Colombiana de Baile Deportivo y de Competición, FCBDC). The request for recognition by the Colombian Sports Ministry COLDEPORTES was presented and is currently under review.

With the next World Games taking place in the country's third biggest city Cali, in July 2013, it is of crucial importance that the national governing body for DanceSport be granted recognition as soon as possible. With less than two years to go until DanceSport is again featured in the games, it is the FCBDC that will have to train and field the Colombian couples who could benefit from wild cards in Latin and Standard.

With Salsa also being on the programme of The World Games 2013, FCBDC has already established a "Salsa Deportivo" (sporting Salsa) Committee within its structures.

Add to this a range of other initiatives such as

  • Hosting a DanceSport Seminar with Joan Cayuela from Sapin,
  • Drafting of model statues and adopting the structure for regional DanceSport organisations across Colombia to be established,
  • Enrolling the FCBDC Sports Director for a course in sports managment administered by COLDEPORTES,
  • Engaging in promotional activities,
  • Keeping the competition scene active at national levels and fielding athletes in international competition,

And you will certainly conclude that Colombia is well on track and rapidly developing into a DanceSport stronghold.
