05/03/2024 read more ...The 2016 Professional Division World Cup Standard was held as part of the Saxonian Dance Classics in Dresden, GER, over the past weekend. Despite the fact that the World Championship follows only six days later, participation was high with 19 couples from 12 countries.
The "Choose your battles wisely!" axiom affected the overall turnout at this year's World Cup Standard in Dresden as much as it did the European Championship in Cambrils, ESP, earlier in the year.
With Benedetto Ferruggia and Claudia Koehler, GER, the organisers had the reigning World Champions on the floor, but European Champions Emanuel Valeri and Tania Kehlet, DEN, as well as the runners-up from the PD European Standard in Cambrils, ESP, Donatas Vezelis - Lina Chatkeviciute, LTU, had opted to stay away. Ferruggia - Koehler won all five dances. Next Friday's PD World Standard in Aarhus, DEN, should pit all the best couples against each other and prove to be far more of a challenge.
