Cambrils, ESP - 19 April © Elia and Laura Cambrils is at the heart of one of the most touristic areas in all of Spain. Together with Taragona, Salou and other resort towns it provides the infrastructure to the stretch of Mediterranean coastline that is known as the Costa Daurada.

It is generally with the Easter weekend that tourism shifts into higher gear and starts to assume the role of economic motor for the entire area.

In the past, it was above all a Spanish clientele that filled hotels and generated revenues in early spring. However, with the downturn of the Spanish economy, that clientele started to stay away. Enter the dancers ...

The regional newspaper Diari de Tarragona headlined "DanceSport Fills Hotels and Campings Over Easter." The article goes on to explain that between participants and spectators, DO World DanceSport (which included two European Championships this year) brought approximately 8,000 visitors to Cambrils, made for 30% of the entire hotel occupancy, and had an overall impact of roughly 1 million Euros on the local economy.
