From SnowBall To Summertime Dancing 18/07/2011

Summertime Dancing

Summertime Dancing at Robson Square in Vancouver, CAN, is back after a four-year hiatus. Every Friday night it kicks off with a free lesson by a professional instructor, and it features two showcase performances by local dancers in full costume.

Crowds of between 500 and 1,000 people flock to Robson Square for three hours of DanceSport.

Summertime Dancing began in 1991, as a joint project of the government of British Columbia and the City of Vancouver. These popular open air dances fell to government cutbacks in 1991, and when DanceSport BC took over in 1992 the popular Robson Square Summer Dance Series was born. The series took a four year hiatus after the summer of 2006, as the future of the public space at Robson Square lay in doubt.

Now, on the 30th Anniversary of the original summertime dances, couples young and old will once again trip the fantastic underneath the stars, receive free lessons from expert local dance teachers, and see demonstrations by some of Canada's best dancers.

An initiative DanceSport BC and the local community must be congratulated on.
