Lukas Hinder Assumes Presidency 29/01/2016

Lukas Hinder, WDSF President Swiss Lukas Hinder, member of the World DanceSport Federation (WDSF) Presidium since 1998 and serving as the organisation’s First Vice-President for the past eight years, assumed the presidency after long-time WDSF President Carlos Freitag announced on 23 January 2016 that he would step down due to health reasons.

As per Article 16 (4.) of the WDSF Statutes, First Vice-President Hinder automatically ascended when Freitag made the announcement on the first day of the Presidium Meeting in Barcelona, ESP. Hinder chaired the remainder of the meeting and moved that a joint statement about the outcome be drafted at its conclusion: Barcelona Statement | Presidium Meeting Addresses The Future (here).

As his first act in office Hinder thanked the predecessor for the services rendered to DanceSport and to WDSF. “Carlos Freitag was General Secretary from 2001 through 2006, the year he was elected to the first of his three terms as President,” Hinder said. “In both capacities he exerted himself as he reshaped our sport and our organisation more than anyone before him. Now we all wish that he will soon be able to restore his health.”

Even though the new President’s statutory time in office would cover the remainder of the retired President’s term and extend through June 2017, Hinder will seek ratification of his presidency by the 2016 WDSF General Meeting in Rome this June.

After he retired from active sport as Swiss Champion in the Latin American dances, Hinder launched a second career in sports administration. He started out as President of the Swiss DanceSport Federation in 1987, serving consecutive terms through 1995. In 1997 he was elected to the Executive Committee of the International World Games Association (IWGA), where he is currently serving his fifth term as IWGA Treasurer.

In his life outside of DanceSport the lawyer serves his Zurich constituency as magistrate, notary and registrar.
