It was in May 2009 that WDSF rolled out its YouTube channel DanceSport Total

Launching a first trial balloon for what was to develop into a new communications strategy, a small team travelled to Platja d'Aro, ESP, to produce coverage on a GrandSlam Latin and several other competitions taking place there.

The mainstay of this coverage were video recordings of individual couples dancing in these events. They were supplemented with basic television graphics and - eventually - uploaded to a channel that was publicised to a very small group of people only.

This group provided highly positive feedback and encouraged the team to continue with the concept of making digital competition coverage available. Other events followed: The World Games 2009 in Kaohsiung, TPE, and a few World Championships were produced. The very first "Live from ..." blogs on Wordpress were created for some of these events. Still, all of this was very much in a Beta mode, including DanceSport Total. For all of 2009, only 174,191 video views were registered on YouTube.
