WDSF DanceSport Championship weekend in Chisinau (MDA) 20/04/2023

World Championship Youth Chisinau 2023 Moldova DanceSport Federation and DanceSport Club CODREANCA invited the World’s best WDSF PD Latin couples and the Europe’s best WDSF Youth Latin couples to Chisinau, the capital city of Moldova, to compete for the two Championship titles in mid-April.

From Youth to Professionals

The two-day Championship Event kicked off with the 2023 WDSF European Championship Youth Latin on Saturday. The Palace of Republic saw 48 couples, many of which we remember from the same title event held in Yerevan (ARM) at the end of October 2022, less than six months ago. The reigning World and European Champions had moved on to Adult category in the beginning of 2023, but many of the young finalists and semifinalists of the 2022 WDSF European Championship shared the floor again on the 2023 title event at Chisinau.

In the final, Armand Georgescu – Kamila Novosyolova stole the show. The Moldovan couple which ranked 14th in 2022, won all dances of the final and won the 2023 European Championship title in front of Walter Bogdan Kostner – Andreea Daiana Dumitry (ROU). The Romanian couple ranked third in 2022, and by demonstrating consistency over the past six months the couple was awarded the European Championship Silver medals this year. The Portuguese couple Joao Sant’Anna – Luna Pinto, however, had a huge improvement in rankings since 2022 and leaped up from 38th place in 2022 to Bronze medals in 2023.

The line-up of the final was completed with Nicholas Spica – Carlotta Aceti (ITA) with their 4th place at their first title event as a couple, followed by last year’s World Junior II Latin Champions Dimitrii Kalistov – Luna Maria Albanese (GER) on the 5th place, and Nikita Zemlianoy – Ameliya Seferyan (ARM), the silver medalists in 2022, who once again demonstrated their strong performance at the final and ranked 6th.

2023 WDSF PD World Championship Latin

The Palace of Republic kept vibrating with the Latin tunes as the 2023 WDSF PD World Championship Latin highlighted the second day of the event. 25 couples representing 19 countries, including the seven-times World Champions Gabriele Goffredo – Anna Matus (MDA) brought their experience and charisma on the floor in a way the previous day’s Youth couples could look up to and to be inspired from.

In the end, and after an exciting final the Moldovan favourite couple Goffredo – Matus secured their remarkable 8th World Championship title with their precise yet dynamic and flowing dancing. Just like in 2022, the Hungarian representatives Andrea Silvestri – Martina Varadi gave a spectacular show and earned World PD Championship Silver medals. The Bronze medals were delivered to Sergiu Maruster – Anastasia Stan (MDA), a couple who had joined our Professional Division just recently.

The final line-up was completed with Ionut Ionescu – Bianca Maria Ionescu (ROU), Mateusz Kieszek - Ludivine Brangbour (POL) and Lars Olav Eltervaag - Paraskevi Zygouri (NOR), who ranked 4th to 6th in respective order.

The event with a beautiful setting at the venue next to the historical centre of the city of Chisinau served the couples outstandingly well and allowed the couples to shine under the spotlight. All of the four rounds of the Saturday event included energetic dancing by the most talented Youth Latin couples in Europe at the moment, leaving us anticipated in excitement for their future endeavors. On Sunday, the Professional Division couples demonstrated their powerful yet aesthetically pleasing interpretation of the music, leaving us wanting to see more. And there is more to come, later this year!
