The World DanceSport Federation (WDSF) is pleased to announce that the 2024 World Breaking Championships has been rescheduled to Chengdu, People’s Republic of China to provide a unique opportunity for the world’s leading Breakers.
The 2024 World Championships will take place on Friday the 20th and Saturday the 21st of December at the Chengdu Chengbei Venue, the same venue that will host the Breaking events during next year’s IWGA World Games.
Because the World Breaking Championships will double as a qualifying event for the 2025 World Games, slated for 7-17 August next year, it will give athletes battling to be crowned world champions the rare opportunity to also familiarise themselves with the dance floor, venue and city ahead of the major international multi-sport event.
This championship will be run as an open event with no fix number of nomination per country. The best 2 athletes per gender will receive direct qualification to the World Games while the remaining athletes will score points to the WDSF World Ranking List. There will be a total of 16 B-Boys and 16 B-Girls qualified for the 2025 IWGA World Games.
This will be the fifth edition of the WDSF World Breaking Championship, following successful events in Nanjing 2019, Paris 2021, Seoul 2022, and Leuven 2023.
“We are thrilled to be organising our prestigious WDSF World Breaking Championships in the historic and cultural city of Chengdu,” said WDSF President Shawn Tay. “Athletes from around the world will be treated to world-class hospitality and first-rate facilities, allowing them to focus solely on what matters most: the competition. We look forward to witnessing some fantastic battles this December.”
The World Championships routinely attracts elite B-Boys and B-Girls from all corners of the globe, with upwards of 300 Breakers from 50 countries participating.
The new dates and location follow the recent cancellation of the originally scheduled event this November in Houston, Texas due to unforeseen circumstances.
The WDSF looks forward to welcoming all the athletes to Chengdu this December and apologises for any inconvenience the change in dates and location may have caused.
