From Paris to Brisbane 2032: WDSF Submits Official Proposal for Breaking’s Olympic Return

Following Breaking’s Olympic debut at Paris 2024, the World DanceSport Federation (WDSF) has formally submitted its application to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to include the sport in the Brisbane 2032 Olympic programme.

The formal submission follows momentum built during last January’s WDSF World Breaking DanceSport Festival in Brisbane, which brought top B-Boys and B-Girls to Australia and demonstrated strong local operational readiness. Concurrently, the global community has rallied behind the movement under the #BreakingForBrisbane2032 campaign.

"Our proposal for Brisbane 2032 is about securing a long-term future for our athletes," said WDSF President Shawn Tay. "We proved in Paris that Breaking belongs on the world’s biggest stage. Our focus now is opening doors for the next generation and keeping that Olympic pathway open."

A Sustainable Fit for Queensland

The WDSF application highlights Breaking’s direct alignment with the IOC’s "Fit for the Future" framework, offering maximum youth appeal with a minimal operational footprint. Inspired by the urban venue concept at Place de la Concorde in Paris, the sport utilizes temporary, shared urban infrastructure without requiring permanent venues.

"Breaking brings high athletic performance, cost efficiency, and huge youth engagement," said Nenad Jeftic, WDSF 1st Vice President and Vice-President for Sport. "Paris 2024 proved our technical delivery capabilities, and we are fully prepared to execute in Brisbane."

The proposal now enters the formal evaluation phase with the IOC Olympic Programme Working Group.
