IDSF World Cup Latin 2009 - Belgium 07/02/2009

Avatar Jurij Batagelj and Jagoda Stukelj  from Slovenia, winners of the IDSF World Cup Latin 2009 danced on 07-02-2009 in Antwerp - Belgium.

Report by Hubert de Maesschalck

As organizers we are  very happy that the World Cup Latin 2009, was held this year in Antwerp, And we are very gratefully to IDSF to grant us this title.
Our new location pleased all the dancers, judges and special the public. Everything is there, what we need to run this festival.

The entry for the World Cup Latin was very good, we had 29 entries, and 26 couples danced. For the first time we had in Belgium also a couple from China, but also Japan, Canada, USA, and almost every country from Europe.

6 couples danced the final, and from the beginning it was clear that the title was going to  Slovenia, or Italy. Both couples danced with class and where very well supported by the public. Almost 1000 people attended this championship, with also on the same day and evening International Open Standard and  Senior II Standard.

Winning the title Jurij Batagelj, and Jagoda Strukelj from Slovenia, and 2nd Aniello Langella and Natalija Maidiuk from Italy. 3rd Jevgenijs Suvorovs and Andrrea Zelinkova from Latvia, 4th Andrea Silvestri and Martina Varadi 5th Manuel Frigheto and Warin Rooba and 6th place to Sergey and Viktoria Tatarenko from Germany.

I think it was for the judges quite difficult to place 4, 5 and 6th place, these couples are very close together, and I am sure that if we look to the marks, it will show what I just said. Next year we will run in this hall, Grand Slam Latin, and I am sure that we will see again a great competition , and we will meet these couples again with many others.

See you in Antwerp next year  in February.

Hubert.
