Meet the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games Athletes: B-Boy Edgar on Vision, Heritage, and Latvia’s Breakthrough

From Daugavpils, Latvia, to the world stage, B-Boy Edgar reflects on his path to becoming a Youth Olympic Breaker.

Edgars Suritis, known by the Breaking community as B-Boy Edgar, will represent his country, Latvia, in the upcoming 2026 Youth Olympic Games. At 16 years old, he makes history as the 2nd Latvian athlete and 1st Latvian male athlete to qualify for the Youth Olympic Games for Breaking.

Long before he could even picture himself on the Olympic stage, his destiny was set in motion. Back in 2020, at the age of 10, his coach set a defining goal; in his coach’s own words, the goal was going to the Youth Olympics: “We need to go there. You’ll be 16 that year”.

Six years later, that prediction has converted into reality, and he is ready to step into the world’s most important cypher.

“So deeply in my mind I was ready from that day”, Edgar reflects.

Being part of Factory Kingz, his Breaking crew in Daugavpils, Latvia, Edgar believes this moment is pivotal for Breaking in his town and his country; the Olympics being a space to promote the Breaking scene and culture.

BUILDING CONVICTION ON THE INTERNATIONAL STAGE

For B-Boy Edgar, the full scope of what he could achieve through Breaking became clear on the international stage. His first key turning point occurred in 2019 when he won a major global youth competition in France alongside his crew, after navigating a challenging semi-final against People’s Republic of China and securing victory over Belarus in the final. A second pivotal moment followed during a prestigious worldwide junior championship in Slovenia in 2024, where his standout performance earned widespread acclaim and firmly established his presence in the discipline.

B-Boy Edgar was always determined and hard-working, but moments like this were a turning point in his conviction, proving to himself that he could carry the pressure of an elite-level athlete.

TACTICAL GROWTH AND THE POWER MOVE BLUEPRINT

B-Boy Edgar is looking to excel in the upcoming Youth Olympic Games in Dakar and besides going for gold on the 12th and 13th of November, he is already thinking about other upcoming international competitions that he will be attending this 2026-2027 DanceSport season.

Securing a spot in one of the world’s most important stages comes with a lot of maturity and growth within his sport. Edgar emphasizes the importance of power moves for all young breakers:

“Learn power moves when you are at a young age, because later will be harder! I made this mistake too” – B-Boy Edgar.

Edgar’s advice comes with a lot of self-reflection and awareness, and knowing his strengths and weaknesses, as well as knowing how to work with them, is part of what makes him a great athlete.

Beyond his ambition on the competitive stage, B-Boy Edgar remains passionate about the artistic and cultural roots of Breaking. For him, elite athleticism and authentic self-expression are inseparable, emphasizing that the future of Breaking depends on honoring its community-driven origins and distinct stylistic heritage while navigating the global sporting landscape.
